The Villager Book Club
The Midcoast Villager and Barnswallow Books are partnering to launch the Villager Book Club, a community book club designed to bring Midcoast readers together. Over the next 12 months, we'll gather for 6 book discussions hosted at either Barnswallow Books or the Villager Cafe, bringing readers together to share ideas, stories, and conversation.

OCTOBER BOOK
The Bluest Eye
Meeting Date: Wednesday, October 7, 5pm at Barnswallow Books
We’ll be reading Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye, her debut novel, as part of Maine’s Banned Book Week. The novel has been challenged and removed from curricula across the country since its publication in 1970, and we’re looking forward to talking about its difficult themes, its place in Morrison’s body of work and what it means to challenge and ban books in 2026.
